The Tamil film industry is abuzz with excitement as two of Indian cinema’s greatest icons, Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, unite for the monumental film Thalaivar 173. The film will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sundar C and produced under Raaj Kamal Films International, Kamal Haasan’s prestigious banner.
The official announcement was made on Wednesday, accompanied by a much-celebrated photograph featuring Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth — a moment that has already set social media abuzz with anticipation.
In an official statement, the makers said, “Superstar Rajinikanth is set to headline in the magnum opus ‘Thalaivar 173’, under Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International banner directed by Sundar C.”
This landmark collaboration not only unites towering forces of Indian cinema but also celebrates five decades of friendship and brotherhood between Superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan – a bond that continues to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike.
Director Sundar C previously worked with Rajinikanth on the blockbuster Arunachalam (1997). He also directed the critically acclaimed Anbe Sivam (2003), starring Kamal Haasan and R. Madhavan. Though Anbe Sivam didn’t perform well at the box office initially, it later gained cult status and is now considered a classic.
This big-budget project is scheduled to release in theaters during Pongal 2027. The full cast and crew details will be announced soon.
