Theri / Policeodu Third 3rd Day Collection: 1st Saturday Business Report

Theri Third Day Box Office Collection

Vijay’s “Theri” has got a great start at the worldwide box office. The Tamil movie has raked in Rs. 28.96 crore worldwide from over 1200 screens on its first day. In fact, Ilayathalapathy’s latest flick has broken the records of “Vedalam” (Rs. 22 crore approximately), “Kaththi” (Rs. 26 crore approximately) and “Puli” (Rs. 19.55 crore approximately). As per Andhra Box Office, it is now the seventh biggest South Indian opener after “Bahubali,” “Sardar Gabbar Singh,” “Lingaa,” “I,” “Srimanthudu” and “Endhiran.” The underlining part of its success story is that the Vijay-starrer was released only in Tamil, while most of the aforementioned films were released in multiple languages. Hence, the collections of those flicks were higher than “Theri.”

On its second day due to mixed reactions of audience and critics as well, Theri has witnessed considerable drop in its occupancy and raked the business of around 7 cr*. Word of mouth of the movie is not much strong, so there is no expectations of growth on Saturday and Sunday. But the Telugu version failed to meet expectations that it had created before its release. The likely reason seems to be that the movie got mixed reviews from film critics and viewers; almost everyone blasted the director and editor for dragging the flashback in the second half of the film.

There was some consolation, as the movie got good amount of advance booking for Saturday and it reportedly witnessed 65 percent occupancy in both single screens and multiplexes in many centres. But the movie was able to attract an average of only 65 percent to 70 percent footfalls in some areas. As per early trends, the film has collected Rs 5+ crore* nett at the AP and Telangana box offices on the third day. Its three-day total collection stands at Rs 24.70+ crore.

The film has performed well in Tamil Nadu, apart from centres abroad. It collected Rs 13.50 crore* on the first day, Rs 11.50 crore on the second day and Rs 8.50 crore* on the second day. The film has raked in approximately Rs 60+ crore nett at the worldwide box office in three days. It is expected to show a decent jump on Sunday and cross the Rs 75+ crore mark in the first weekend.
