Latest venture of Bhansali Productions in association with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Padmaavat is heading strongly on box office across the country as well as international market. Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh starrer this epic period drama was released last Thursday with enormous hype among fans and as expected received huge response from audience.
Along with viewers, Padmaavat has received positive reviews from critics also. As per them, the movie has all the ingredients which are needed for a complete masala entertainer. As a result, it has gained good word of mouth. Being appreciated for the brilliant performances given by Ranveer & Deepika.
Due to massive initial buzz, Padmaavat recorded overall excellent occupancy throughout its 8-days extended opening week and did the business of 166.50 crores from 4000 screens on domestic box office. The first week total had included 114 crores of 5-days weekend (Wed 5cr (Paid Previews), Thu 19cr, Fri 32cr (Republic Day), Sat 27cr, Sun 31cr) and 52.50 crores of weekdays (Mon 15cr, Tue 14cr, Wed 12.50cr, Thu 11cr).
Now this Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial is running in its second week and once again witnessing growth in its business due to weekend. On 2nd Friday, the movie faced a minimal drop of approx. 7% than the previous day and minted the amount of 10 crores. On the next day i.e. Saturday, Padmaavat added the amount of 16 crores and made its 11 days net domestic total as 192.50 crores.
There is good competition for the film from next week on as well since Padman and Aiyaary are coming together. That would result in the division of screens as well as audience attention. It would be interesting to see how Padmaavat holds on from there. While a lifetime sum of around 230-240 crore is still on the cards, any number beyond that would be added bonus for the film.
