Sunny Deol has officially unveiled the title of his much-anticipated historical drama Batwara 1947, a project that was previously known as Lahore 1947. The announcement was made on June 9, 2026, alongside a powerful first-look video that offers a glimpse into the film’s intense Partition-era backdrop.

Scheduled for a theatrical release on August 14, 2026, the film is produced by Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi. The project brings together three of Bollywood’s most influential names, making it one of the industry’s most eagerly awaited collaborations.
The announcement video introduces viewers to a world marked by violence, displacement, and resilience. The visuals suggest a story deeply rooted in the human tragedy of the 1947 Partition and the struggle for survival amid widespread chaos.
One of the newly released posters features Sunny Deol holding a flaming torch while standing protectively beside Preity Zinta and Karan Deol. The striking image hints at a family caught in the turmoil and uncertainty of one of history’s most turbulent periods.
The film has generated considerable buzz as it reunites Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi, the duo behind celebrated classics such as Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak. Their previous collaborations continue to be regarded among the finest works in Hindi cinema.
Adding to the excitement is the return of Preity Zinta opposite Sunny Deol. The actress had earlier described the project as the most challenging film of her career. The ensemble cast also includes veteran actor Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Abhimanyu Singh in pivotal roles.
With its star-studded cast, acclaimed creative team, and emotionally charged historical backdrop, Batwara 1947 is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about Bollywood releases of 2026.
