Batwara 1947 2nd day box office collection: Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta starrer Batwara 1947 witnessed a significant jump in its box office collection on Saturday. The Rajkumar Santoshi-directed period drama, which opened with Rs 5.52 crore on Friday, collected around Rs 12.82 crore on its second day, taking its two-day India net total to Rs 18.34 crore, according to the latest trade figures.
Released on August 14, 2026, Batwara 1947 benefited from the Independence Day holiday on Saturday. The film recorded a growth of more than 132% over its opening day, indicating a substantial improvement in audience turnout.
Batwara 1947 released alongside Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2, creating a direct Bollywood clash during the Independence Day weekend. Both films arrived in cinemas on August 14, with Awarapan 2 gaining a stronger start at the box office. Reports indicate that the Emraan Hashmi-led sequel remained well ahead of Batwara 1947 during the first two days.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and backed by Aamir Khan Productions, Batwara 1947 is set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition and explores displacement, communal tension and humanity during one of the most traumatic periods in the subcontinent’s history. The film stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh, among others.
The film is based on Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai, which centres on an elderly Hindu woman who remains in her ancestral home in Lahore after Partition.
