MS Dhoni Total Screens & Budget
India loves and lives cricket but cinema is a different ball game altogether. This Friday, a biopic on the most-successful cricket captain, “MS Dhoni – the Untold Story” will hit the big screen and is poised to be a Bollywood blockbuster—or so the unprecedented hype points to and proclaims. It will premiere in 60 countries and 4,500 screens–touted to be the biggest release ever for an Indian film worldwide. Its official teaser and trailers have recorded millions of YouTube hits, hinting at a happy reception for the movie that recounts the extraordinary story of “Mahi”—a small-town boy who became “Captain Cool” of the cricket universe and the only one to win both Twenty20 and One-day International world cups. Its Fox Star Hindi official trailer alone raked in over 21 million views.
Makers of M.S.Dhoni The Untold Story have cashed the amount of 55 crores with its satellite rights, which is higher than what a superstar Salman Khan-starrer gets paid. Music and overseas distribution rights have been sold at 5 crores and 10 crores respectively. Additional 20 crores they got by marketing tie-ups with several brands like- Maruti Suzuki, GoDaddy, TVS etc. Also a Hollywood production house has bought the English remake of M.S.Dhoni The Untold Story from director Neeraj Pandey & Fox Star Studios at 10 crores. That means, it has recovered 100 crores before the release and ready to take box office by storm
“We are pleased to inform that the film will be the widest ever release for a film in India and worldwide with it releasing in 60 countries. We wanted to release our film in Marathi and Punjabi too. However, given the deadline to make the widest ever release happen in the history of Indian cinema, we are not being able to get the Marathi and the Punjabi versions ready in time.” Vijay Singh, CEO-Fox Star Studios, India said.
With Neeraj Pandey directing the Fox Star co-production, “MS Dhoni – the Untold Story” passed the crucial test: how realistically could a movie actor represent technical skills of an international cricketer. Sushant Singh Rajput seems to have succeeded with not only the trademark Dhoni mannerisms of batting, but also in reproducing his intense character.
Rajput’s preparation included three months of intensive training to get the physical fitness of a professional athlete. Rajput had multiple meetings with Dhoni as part of his homework. As if the movie needed a pre-launch booster, India, led by Dhoni, won its 500th test match, against New Zealand at Kanpur on Monday. Dhoni’s biopic promises to tell an untold story and is hyped to be a blockbuster. But what it will turn out to be? Wait and watch.
