Dangal Opening Week Box Office Report
The Nitesh Tiwari directed film Dangal released last week on Friday. The film starring Aamir Khan has managed to hit it big at the box office in the domestic box office collecting over Rs 100 crore in just three days. Similarly in the overseas markets as well Dangal that released a day earlier has been faring well. The movie has emerged as the All Time Highest Opening Weekend Grosser at the Australia box office as well as the North America box office.
Aamir Khan’s Christmas release ‘Dangal,’ which also stars Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra and Sakshi Tanwar in lead roles, is roaring at the domestic box-office with collections of over Rs 176 crore. But the movie’s glorious run is not just limited to India. The sports drama, co-written and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is also winning hearts overseas. ‘Dangal’ has crossed the Rs 100-crore mark and its collections till Wednesday read an impressive Rs 102.25 crore. This is not the final figure as some screens are yet to report their collections.
What’s interesting is here is that a film like ‘Dangal,’ having a Haryanvi setting, has found place in the hearts of international audience, which is primarily a market for formulaic Bollywood films. The worldwide collection of ‘Dangal’, including its domestic figures, now stands at an astounding figure of over Rs 288 crore. With the film continuing its miraculous run, one can expect ‘Dangal’ to make its way to the Rs 300-crore club by Thursday itself. ‘Dangal,’ a biopic on Indian coach and wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, hit the screens on December 23, 2016 and is the last big Bollwood release of the year.
Dangal was set up and expected to break many records on the box office but it could not break even few especially none of all those which were being predicted earlier. It is true that the film has got that much tremendous response outside India as was expected but it has still earned lot of income internationally. Thursday total Income of Dangal including Overseas screens is around 28 Crores*.
