Yash Raj Films (YRF) is reportedly preparing to make its debut in the horror genre, and the studio has chosen Varun Dhawan to headline the ambitious project. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Abhay Pannu and is expected to go on floors later this year before arriving in cinemas in 2027.
As per Bollywood Hungama, the upcoming film marks a major milestone for YRF, which has explored a wide range of genres over the years but has never produced a full-fledged horror feature. The project is being strategically backed by Akshaye Widhani and features a screenplay written by Abhay Pannu himself.
A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama revealed that Varun Dhawan has officially joined the project as the lead actor. The source stated that YRF is finally stepping into the horror space after years of dominating multiple genres, with the film targeted for a theatrical release in 2027.
The film will also be an important career milestone for Abhay Pannu. While the filmmaker received widespread appreciation for directing the acclaimed web series Rocket Boys, this horror venture will mark his first theatrical feature as a director. His collaboration with YRF reflects the studio’s continued focus on working with filmmakers who bring fresh storytelling perspectives.
In recent years, under the leadership of Aditya Chopra, YRF has expanded its creative roster by collaborating with directors such as Mohit Suri, Sameer Saxena, and now Abhay Pannu. The banner’s strategy of backing distinctive voices has gained further momentum following the success of Saiyaara, reinforcing its commitment to experimenting with new genres and narratives.
For Varun Dhawan, the horror film will reunite him with Yash Raj Films after their previous collaboration on Sui Dhaaga. With the actor now attached to YRF’s maiden horror venture, expectations are already building around what promises to be one of the studio’s most anticipated releases of 2027.
