One of the much-awaited films of the year, Thappad is in theatres now and started its journey at a fair note. Moreover, there wasn’t much of a competition from past or present either with Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Bhoot Part One – The Haunted Ship slowing down.
Directed by Robbie Grewal, a female-oriented drama has expectedly received positive reviews from the critics as well as the audience and gathered a good word of mouth. But still, due to the presence of mammoth in parallel, it remained under-performed on the opening day.
On Friday, Thappad opened with an occupancy of only 10% in the morning and recorded decent growth in footfalls over the evening and night shows. In the end, it registered the business of 3.07 crores nett. As the word of mouth is positive, the film is expected to take a fair jump over the weekend.
Taapsee Pannu has been the talk of the town since the announcement. The trailer of the received a lot of appreciation from the masses. The story of the film revolves around a woman (Taapsee) who files for a divorce after her husband slaps her.
Meanwhile, the film is helmed by Anubhav Sinha and backed by Bhushan Kumar, the film also stars Pavail Gulati, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Dia Mirza, Ram Kapoor and Kumud Mishra. Also, the film marks the second collaboration of Taapsee and director Anubhav after ‘Mulk’ which was released in 2018.
