Producer K Rajashekhar Reddy seems to be hell-bent on releasing Spy, headlined by Nikhil Siddhartha, on the 29th of this month come rain or shine. To this end, he reiterated the release date again by dispatching a press release to the media on Saturday.
The development assumes significance as the producer and Nikhil have been at loggerheads over the release date. While the latter wanted more time to promote the movie across the north India in addition to allocating more time for post-production for a far superior product, the former is of the opinion that if he defers the release to next month, his streaming partner will subtract a huge chunk of money due to the breach in the pact. Then there is the problem of distributors not paying their pre-agreed amount due to the film skipping Bakrid holiday. His hands are tied taking all these factors combined.
Amid this chaos, Nikhil, usually active on Twitter, hasn’t even promoted the latest single from the film, Jhoom Jhoom Re, which has amassed three million views so far. Instead, he is spreading a word or two about his under production film Swayambhu. It remains to be seen how this escalating situation pans out in the coming days.
In Spy, Iswarya Menon is paired opposite Nikhil, while Sanya Thakur and Aryan Rajesh are playing other key roles. Directed by renowned editor Garry BH, the film will be released in five languages – Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada– on June 29th.
