In a move that has sent shockwaves through the industry, Ranbir Kapoor has officially confirmed the long-standing rumors: he will be pulling double duty in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. The revelation came during a recent press junket in Los Angeles, where Kapoor discussed the immense spiritual and physical weight of the project.

Sharing his excitement about getting the opportunity to portray both roles, Ranbir highlighted how rare and creatively fulfilling the experience has been for him as an actor. “Just to get the opportunity, you know, how I got to play Lord Rama, to also play Lord Parshurama was fantastic. I think as an actor, apart from body language, I think if you deeply understand the spirituality and the emotionality of the characters, I think everything starts from there. I think that’s what I did the year leading up to the shoot of Ramayana, to understand who these people and characters are, what they stand for and what their motives are.”

The teaser of Ramayana, released on April 2, hinted at a potential clash between Rama and Parshuram. In the epic, Rama meets Parshuram on his journey back to Ayodhya after marrying Sita. The teaser also featured Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Arun Govil as King Dashratha.

This will be Kapoor’s second double role after Shamshera (2022), where he played Shamshera and his son Balli.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film also stars Sai Pallavi (Sita), Yash (Ravana), and Sunny Deol (Hanuman).

Produced by Namit Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios, in association with Monster Mind Creations, with actor Yash serving as a co-producer, Ramayana will release on Diwali 2026.
