Ponniyin Selvan II & Agent box office collection day 1: The most-awaited sequel of Ponniyin Selvan 2, directed by Mani Ratnam finally hit the screens yesterday and takes a good start. The film is a cinematic retelling of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novels and chronicles the early days of Chola empire.
The two-part magnum opus, boasts of some of the biggest names from the Indian entertainment industry, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Parthiban, and Vikram Prabhu.
According to the latest update, the film collected Rs 25.45 crores including Rs 18.97 crore from Tamil, Rs 1.70 crore from Hindi, Rs 1.35 crore from Malayalam, Rs 3.40 crore from Telugu and Rs 0.03 crore from Kannada at the domestic box office.
On the other hand, Telugu spy-thriller Agent has taken a slow start with mixed word of mouth. Directed by Surender Reddy, the film failed to register a double-digit box office opening and managed to earn Rs 5-6 crore on its first day of release.
Despite the film’s star-studded cast, including Akhil Akkineni, Mammootty, Dino Morea, Sakshi Vaidya, and Vikramjeet Virk, the film failed to attract audiences in significant numbers. Agent has been made on a budget of nearly Rs 80 crore.
