Paresh Rawal’s social media post about Goddess Lakshmi, money and wisdom has drawn amusing reactions from fellow actors Rajpal Yadav and Elvish Yadav, adding an interesting layer to the growing buzz around Malamaal Weekly 2.
On August 12, Paresh Rawal shared a thought connecting wealth with wisdom, writing in Hindi, “माता लक्ष्मी चंचल हैं, वो कभी एक जगह नही टिकती ,और उनका उल्लू पर सवार होना हमें सिखाता है— सिर्फ़ ‘मालामाल’ होना काफ़ी नहीं है, थोड़ी बुद्धि और विवेक भी ज़रूरी है, वरना पैसा आते ही इंसान, पैसा संभालने के बजाय, खुद ही उल्लू बन जाता है।”
Rajpal Yadav responded to the post with a playful take on the importance of money. He wrote, “ये तो बहुत बढ़िया बात बोली भैया। मालामाल होना तो जीवन में बहुत जरूरी है 🙂”.
Elvish Yadav also joined the conversation, replying, “बिल्कुल सही 😂 माता लक्ष्मी चंचल हैं, इसलिए पैसा आते ही उसे संभालना भी सीखना चाहिए। वरना आज आदमी बोलेगा “मैं करोड़पति हूँ” और कल बैंक बैलेंस देखकर खुद बोलेगा “हे लक्ष्मी माता, आप आई थीं या बस दर्शन देकर चली गईं?” 😂🙏”.
The exchange has caught attention at a time when the trio is reportedly set to reunite on screen for Malamaal Weekly 2. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav are returning to the franchise, while Elvish Yadav has been brought on board as a new addition to the principal cast.
The sequel is also expected to feature a prominent female cast, with Parineeti Chopra, Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shirodkar reportedly attached to the project.
Unlike a direct continuation of the original film’s plot, Malamaal Weekly 2 is said to have a completely fresh story. The film, however, will retain the central comic ingredients that made the 2006 original popular: ordinary people, financial desperation, greed and the irresistible temptation of sudden wealth.
The story is expected to once again place its characters in a chaotic situation where the prospect of money brings out their ambitions, insecurities and comic instincts. With a new storyline, the makers are looking to preserve the spirit of the franchise while creating a fresh comedy of errors.
Amit Joshi, who co-directed Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, has reportedly come on board to direct the sequel. The filmmaker is said to be working on the script, with production targeted for November 2026.
The original Malamaal Weekly, directed by Priyadarshan and released in 2006, revolved around Lilaram, a lottery ticket seller who discovers an opportunity to claim a winning lottery ticket for himself after its owner dies. His attempt to keep the money secret quickly spirals out of control as other villagers become aware of the fortune, resulting in a series of increasingly chaotic and comic situations.
The film went on to become a box-office success and was later remade in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with Priyadarshan himself directing the Malayalam version.
With the original comic trio returning alongside Elvish Yadav and a new ensemble of female performers, Malamaal Weekly 2 is shaping up to revisit the franchise’s familiar obsession with money—making Rajpal Yadav and Elvish Yadav’s light-hearted reactions to Paresh Rawal’s “malamaal” wisdom particularly timely.
