Mira Nair shares a special memory of Namit Das’s screen test for ‘A Suitable Boy’

Mira Nair’s adaptation of A Suitable Boy was one of the stellar projects on Namit Das’s slate in 2020. The series saw the versatile actor in the role of a shoe entrepreneur who is hoping to win the hand of a literature student, Lata for marriage.

Only recently after Das won acclaim for the series, Nair shared a special memory of his screen test. She uploaded a photo of Das and Tanya Maniktala (who was seen essaying the role of Lata in the series) on the day of their screen test.

In the caption space of her social media post, Mira says, “This popped up today – the first time the suitable boy met the suitable girl – screentest – one sparked the other and it was done. Thank you for the love, Lata and Haresh, 2020 ka kamaal”.

Along with the netizens, Namit and Tanya also dropped their love in the comment section. Namit Das wrote, “I will always remember this day Mira. Thank you for this and thank you for everything that you have brought to my world. Love & light @pagliji”. Tanya also commented on Mira’s post, “Oioo haha this day and @namitdas thank you for the non stop laughter”.

A Suitable Boy is a BBC television drama miniseries directed by Mira Nair and adapted by Andrew Davies from Vikram Seth’s 1993 novel of the same name. Set in North India in 1951, it follows the coming of age of Lata (Tanya Maniktala), a spirited university student. Tabu, Ishaan Khatter, Rasika Dugal, Namit Das and Ram Kapoor also star in the six-part series.
