Director David Dhawan’s latest romantic-comedy, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, has wrapped up its first weekend on a positive note. Led by the trio of Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur, the film capitalized on Sunday’s holiday crowds to cross the double-digit mark in single-day earnings, pushing its total opening weekend collection to Rs 28.51 crore.

The film, which hit theatres on Friday, June 5, features a stellar supporting ensemble including Jimmy Shergill, Mouni Roy, Rakesh Bedi, Chunky Panday, and Maniesh Paul, alongside special cameos by Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Manoj Pahwa, Kriti Sanon, and Varun Sood.
After a steady start on Friday and a minor growth on Saturday, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai (#HJTIHH) experienced a strong surge on Sunday. The day-wise box office breakdown for Week 1 stands as follows:
- Friday (Day 1): Rs 8.65 crore
- Saturday (Day 2): Rs 9.10 crore
- Sunday (Day 3): Rs 10.76 crore
Total Opening Weekend: Rs 28.51 crore
The primary catalyst behind Sunday’s upward trend was a noticeable jump in footfalls across mass circuits and single screens. While urban multiplexes held steady, the interior mass centres showed significantly stronger momentum as the weekend drew to a close.
Additionally, strategic ticketing incentives played a massive role in pulling audiences to the theatres. A lucrative 50% discount offer on BookMyShow (BMS) was active throughout all three days. Though the offer faced a brief hiccup on Saturday—reintroduced only from 2:00 PM / 3:00 PM onwards—it successfully drove spot-bookings on Friday and Sunday.
