Esha Deol is set to return to the comedy genre with Malamaal Weekly 2. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the actress has signed the much-awaited sequel, which is expected to go on floors in November 2026.
Speaking about joining the project, Esha said that she was looking for a light-hearted entertainer after completing two very different films, the horror-comedy Ghungat and SYG: Sambarala Yeti Gattu.
“This is exactly what I needed – something fun, light-hearted and full of laughter. After completing two very different films – the horror-comedy Ghungat and the SYG: Sambarala Yeti Gattu – I was really looking forward to doing a complete comic caper, and Malamaal Weekly 2 came along at just the right time,” Esha said.
The actress also recalled her earlier outings in the comedy genre, including No Entry (2005), Shaadi No 1 (2005) and One Two Three (2008). Esha said comedy has always been a space she has enjoyed and that she had been keen to return to the genre.
“Having done films like No Entry (2005), Shaadi No 1 (2005) and One Two Three (2008), comedy is a space I’ve always loved and really wanted to come back to. The script is absolutely hilarious, and I genuinely think everyone is going to love it. I’m just so happy to be part of a film that’s all about fun, laughter and pure entertainment,” she added.
The sequel is expected to bring together a large ensemble of actors. The reported cast includes Paresh Rawal, Riteish Deshmukh, Fardeen Khan, Elvish Yadav, Rajpal Yadav, Mahesh Manjrekar, Soniya Bansal, Raveena Tandon, Parineeti Chopra and Shilpa Shirodkar, along with Esha Deol.
Malamaal Weekly 2 will be directed by Amit Joshi, who previously helmed the 2024 romantic comedy Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. With a comedy-heavy ensemble cast and a fresh story, the sequel is being positioned as a full-fledged comic entertainer.
The film will reportedly feature a completely new storyline, rather than simply continuing the events of the earlier Malamaal Weekly films. Details about the characters and plot are currently being kept under wraps.
