The much-anticipated sequel to the 2007 cult classic Awarapan is in full swing, with stars Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani currently filming in Bangkok. According to a recent Mid-Day report, the team has locked in an intense 40-day schedule in the Thai capital, during which all action sequences and song shoots will be completed before the production shifts to Mumbai.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt under Vishesh Films, Awarapan 2 picks up right where the original left off. The first film ended with Shivam (played by Hashmi) in a poignant dream sequence, reuniting with his lost love, portrayed by Shriya Saran. The sequel begins at this emotional juncture, with Shivam returning to life, embarking on a new mission, and encountering a mysterious woman — Disha Patani’s character — who plays a pivotal role in his journey.
“The last moments of Awarapan showed a dream sequence of Shivam reuniting with his love. The sequel begins from this point — Shivam comes back to life and meets Disha’s character, who helps him in his next mission,” a source close to the production revealed.
The Bangkok leg of the shoot began last week on a bustling city street, and will soon move to a high-octane action sequence set in a local market. With all filming taking place in real locations, the production team has ramped up security measures to prevent leaks and preserve the secrecy of the storyline.
Both lead actors have undergone physical transformations for the film. Emraan Hashmi will return as Shivam with a leaner physique and a French beard, reflecting the character’s internal evolution and the emotional toll of his past.
“Shivam has matured after his loss,” said the source. “Emraan will be seen with a leaner frame and a French beard.”
Disha Patani, meanwhile, has taken on a highly physical role, with extensive action choreography forming a major part of her scenes. She reportedly underwent intense training in preparation for the shoot.
After wrapping the Bangkok schedule in early November, the team will return to India for the next phase of production. Two major schedules are planned in Mumbai, focusing on the film’s emotional core and dramatic sequences. One of these will involve a large set inside a suburban studio, recreating the characters’ homes.
The makers are eyeing a January 2026 wrap, with a theatrical release date locked for April 3, 2026. Awarapan 2 marks Emraan Hashmi’s long-awaited return to a role that earned him critical acclaim nearly two decades ago, and fans are eagerly anticipating how the sequel will expand on the original’s themes of love, loss, and redemption.
With a fresh pairing, international locations, and a blend of action and emotional drama, Awarapan 2 is shaping up to be one of 2026’s most awaited Hindi films.
