De De Pyaar De 2 Movie Review: A Perfect Mix of Comedy, Romance, and Emotional Punches

Plot

De De Pyaar De 2 is the story of a man trying to win over his girlfriend’s parents. After the events of the first film, Ashish Mehra (Ajay Devgn) begins living with Ayesha Khanna (Rakul Preet Singh) in London. Six months later, Ayesha travels to her hometown, Chandigarh, to be with her family for the birth of her brother Rohan (Tarun Gahlot) and sister-in-law Kittu’s (Ishita Dutta) baby.

Believing it’s the right moment, Ayesha decides to finally confess to her parents — Rakesh (R. Madhavan) and Anju (Gautami Kapoor) — that she is dating a man 24 years older than her. But before she can say anything, Kittu blurts out that Ayesha is seeing someone. Ayesha simply mentions that her boyfriend is “older,” and her parents assume it means just a few years — nothing alarming.

They happily invite Ashish to meet them. But when they discover that Ayesha’s partner is way older than they imagined, the shock triggers a major rift between Ayesha and her father, Rakesh. Hurt by her father’s reaction, Ayesha returns to London and even considers marrying Ashish without her family’s approval.

How Ashish attempts to mend relations, win over Ayesha’s parents, and bridge the emotional gap forms the rest of the story — leading to moments of laughter, awkwardness, ego battles, and heartfelt realization.

Performances

Ajay Devgn – Effortless & Grounded

Ajay brings charm, maturity, and sharp comic timing. His portrayal of a man caught between love and insecurity feels natural and relatable.

R. Madhavan – The Standout

Madhavan’s performance oscillates beautifully between protective father, rigid traditionalist, and emotional parent. His confrontations with Ajay are loaded with humour and tension.

Rakul Preet Singh – Radiant & Confident

Rakul brings warmth and sincerity to her role. She navigates the emotional tug-of-war between partner and family with authenticity.

Supporting Cast – Tight & Effective

Meezaan Jafri also gives his career-best act. Gautami Kapoor lends able support. Jaaved Jaaferi is too good and raises laughs.

Overall, the supporting cast works in perfect sync, strengthening the narrative without overshadowing the leads. Their performances collectively enrich the emotional and comedic texture of the film.

Direction

Anshul Sharma manages a good blend of humour, conflict, and family drama. A few scenes linger, but the film’s emotional tone and comedy stay engaging.

What Works

  • Strong Ajay–Madhavan dynamic
  • Smart humour rooted in real family reactions
  • Relatable age-gap conflicts
  • Heartfelt emotional beats
  • Charming chemistry between Ajay and Rakul

What Could Be Better

  • Some pacing dips in the second half
  • A predictable emotional arc
  • A few repetitive moments in the family confrontations

Verdict

A worthy sequel that expands the emotional universe of the first film while keeping the humour intact. Backed by solid performances and a grounded storyline, De De Pyaar De 2 becomes a breezy and enjoyable rom-com drama with plenty of laughs and heartfelt moments.

Fun, sincere, and engaging — a feel-good entertainer.
