Anil Kapoor Explains Why He Turned Down Aditya Dhar’s Offer for ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’

Veteran actor Anil Kapoor recently opened up about declining a cameo appearance in the upcoming film Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar. Speaking candidly at the India Today Conclave, Kapoor revealed that despite his interest in the project, he had to turn down the offer due to prior professional commitments.

During the conversation, Kapoor shared that Dhar had personally approached him for a brief role in the sequel. “He came to me for Dhurandhar 2. He wanted me to do a small cameo in the film,” Kapoor said. However, the actor explained that the dates clashed with another film he had already committed to.

Kapoor emphasized that professionalism and honoring commitments have been key pillars of his decades-long career. “The reason I am today, what I am today, is because of my professionalism and my commitment. That’s very important. Only talent cannot make you what you are,” he said.

Explaining his decision, the actor noted that the shooting dates for Dhurandhar 2 overlapped with an earlier commitment he had made to another filmmaker. “Those days were committed to some other filmmaker. I said, ‘Aditya, I would have loved to do this cameo, but these days I’m already committed,’” he added.

Despite missing out on the opportunity, Kapoor acknowledged that the film looks promising and called the decision a personal setback. “He’s releasing the film now. It’s a fantastic film, and it’s my loss, but it’s okay,” Kapoor remarked.

The actor also pointed out that maintaining professional ethics is crucial in the film industry. According to him, cancelling previously committed dates for another project would have been unfair. “At least I have the back of my mind that it can happen to him also. There will be some other filmmaker who at that time has given a big blockbuster, and I have committed to Aditya, and I go and do that film and cancel his dates. That’ll be completely unprofessional,” he explained.

Kapoor further expressed hope that he and Dhar will collaborate in the future. When asked whether he would consider appearing in a potential third installment of the franchise, the actor hinted at exploring fresh opportunities instead. “I think I’ll do something new. Naya karunga,” he concluded.

Kapoor’s remarks highlight the importance he places on discipline and reliability—qualities that have helped him sustain a successful career in the industry for over four decades.
