Akshay Kumar is all set to explore an uncharted cinematic territory with Samuk, an ambitious survival-action thriller centered around aliens, military realism and creature-driven action. The actor has begun shooting for the highly mounted project, which is being positioned as a large-scale Pan-Indian theatrical film with global production ambitions.
Produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Kanishk Varma, Samuk marks an exciting reunion between Kumar and Shah. Aashin A Shah is serving as co-producer on the project.
The film has reportedly been in development for more than two years, with Varma and Shah working extensively on creating an original world that combines the intensity of military action with survival horror and alien mythology. The makers are aiming to bring a distinctive genre experience to Indian audiences while maintaining an international visual and technical scale.
One of the major highlights of Samuk is its creature design. Academy Award-nominated creature effects designer Alec Gillis has designed the film’s central alien. Gillis is internationally recognised for his work on iconic creature-driven franchises including Alien and Predator, making his involvement one of the project’s key creative attractions.
The film has also assembled an international technical team to execute its large-scale action sequences. British action director Luke Tumber is involved in designing and directing the film’s action, bringing an international stunt and action sensibility to the project.
With Akshay Kumar leading the cast, Samuk is expected to push the actor into relatively unexplored territory as he takes on a story rooted in alien mythology, survival and high-octane action. The combination of a meticulously developed fictional world, international creature effects and large-scale stunt work gives the project an ambitious cinematic identity.
For Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Kanishk Varma, the film represents an attempt to create a homegrown genre spectacle with the scale and technical craftsmanship associated with international action and science-fiction productions.
