Following the Documentary Short Film win, the much-awaited Best Original Song award was bagged by the RRR song ‘Naatu Naatu’ at the 95th Academy Awards. Helmed by SS Rajamouli, and starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, the award was received by music composer MM Keeravaani, with lyricist Chandrabose.
The official Twitter handle of RRR movie tweeted, “We’re blessed that #RRRMovie is the first feature film to bring INDIA’s first ever #Oscar in the Best Song Category with #NaatuNaatu! No words can describe this surreal moment. Dedicating this to all our amazing fans across the world. THANK YOU!! JAI HIND!’
Music composer M.M. Keeravaani said on receiving the honour: “Thank you Academy. I grew up listening to the carpenter here I am at the Oscars. There was only one wish on my mind… So was Rajamouli’s and my family… ‘RRR’, pride of every Indian. Thank you.”
‘Naatu Naatu’ was competing against Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Diane Warren. It becomes the first-ever song from an Indian film to win the prestigious honour.
‘RRR’ stars Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt and Shriya Saran and tells the fictional story of two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem and their fight against the British Raj.
