Actor Akshay Kumar turned emotional while speaking about his father’s death during a conversation with journalist Rajdeep Sardesai at a Conclave, using the platform to urge men to prioritise health check-ups.

Opening up about the loss, Kumar said, “I lost the most important person in my life – my father. Whenever I talk about him, I say that I lost him. He was everything to me.”
The actor revealed that his father died at the age of 67 after battling prostate cancer and admitted the family was unaware of the importance of early screening. “Why did I lose him? Because I didn’t know that after the age of 50 or 55, you have to get your PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen test) checked,” he said.
Kumar stressed that lack of awareness about preventive healthcare remains a serious issue. “We didn’t get the education that getting your PSA checked is very important for every person, every year,” he told the audience.
Using the platform to deliver a direct public message, he said, “I want to tell all the people here, all the listeners, those who have gone beyond the age of 50, please get your PSA checked.”
Highlighting the scale of the problem, Kumar added, “Prostate cancer is very common. After every third person, a man has prostate cancer. So getting checked is a very important thing to do.”
He underlined that timely diagnosis can make a life-changing difference. “You can save your life. Not only your life, you can save your whole family’s life,” the actor said.
