In a surprising turn of events, Vikas Bahl’s much-anticipated project Queen 2, starring Kangana Ranaut, is reportedly facing a delay, as the director has shifted his focus to another film. The acclaimed filmmaker, known for his work on Super 30 and Shaitaan, has decided to shift his focus to a different project: the Indian adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2014 French-Belgian film, La Famille Bélier.

As per PeepingMoon, Reliance Entertainment, which had acquired the rights to adapt the film almost seven to eight years ago, is finally moving ahead with the project. The film, which is set to be a slice-of-life comedy-drama, will star Alizeh Agnihotri and Raghav Juyal in the lead roles, marking an exciting new chapter in their respective careers.
The Indian adaptation of La Famille Bélier revolves around the only hearing member of a deaf family. This young woman struggles to balance supporting her family’s business while pursuing her dream of becoming a singer. The film explores themes of family, self-discovery, and the emotional tug-of-war between personal aspirations and familial duties.
Alizeh Agnihotri, who made her Bollywood debut in 2023 with Farrey—a remake of the 2007 Thai film Bad Genius—will play the role of the hearing daughter. While the character details of Raghav Juyal remain under wraps.
The original French film La Famille Bélier was later remade in Hollywood as CODA, which went on to win three Academy Awards in 2022, including Best Picture.
The shooting for the Indian adaptation of La Famille Bélier is set to begin towards the end of 2025, with an expected completion date in the first quarter of 2026.
While Queen 2 fans will have to wait a bit longer for the continuation of Kangana Ranaut’s iconic character, Vikas Bahl’s schedule looks packed. After completing the Indian adaptation of La Famille Bélier, the filmmaker will shift his attention to the highly anticipated Shaitaan 2, starring Ajay Devgn, followed by the long-awaited Queen 2.
Additionally, Bahl’s next directorial, Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Wamiqa Gabbi, is slated for an early 2026 release, adding to the growing excitement surrounding his projects.
