Mohanlal starrer Velipadinte Pusthakam has been released on around 400 screens (210 screens in Kerala alone) this Friday at box office with decent buzz among fans as well as audience. As expected, the film has witnessed favorable response of viewers across the country. With the wonderful performances of all the stars but it received mixed reviews from critics, with many critics citing the lack of a solid script as the major weak point.
On the opening day Lal Jose’s directorial, reported overall 50-60% of occupancy across the country for morning shows. Asusual after the evening shows, film picked up and closed the day on an average note. In Kerala, Velipadinte Pusthakam recorded highest occupancy of 65% because of Mohanlal’s stardom. With overall 60% of occupancy, Velipadinte Pusthakam has done the business of 2.94 crores (Gross: 3.72 cr)on Kerala box office.
While the superstar’s fans are all praise for the comedy campus entertainer, many think the movie is average. Majority of the critics have given 2 or 2.5/5 rating for the film, which has an ensemble cast including Salim Kumar, Anna Rajan, Anoop Menon, Siddique, Sarath Kumar, Arun Kurian and Priyanka Nair.
According to the Onmanorama, The script by Benny P. Nayarambalam loses coherence and vigor at several places but somehow manages to hold the attention of the viewers. Reshma Rajan as Mary treads through the straight path laid for her while Priyanka Nair as Vishwan’s wife makes her presence felt occasionally. Siddique.
As rouge businessman Mathan Tharakan, strives to execute a marvelous character. But he is perpetually left in the darkness. However, it’s Chemban Vinod, as Kaka Ramesh, who manages to evoke some feel to the whole narrative.
