Last Friday released Hindi offering Tubelight has emerged as the eleventh movie of superstar Salman Khan to enter in 100 crore club domestically after his Sultan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kick, Jai Ho, Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, Bodyguard, Ready and Dabangg. But unfortunately Tubelight received mixed reviews from critics, also due to pre Eid time, it recorded lower footfalls in theaters than expected and remained almost flat over the weekend at box office.
In the weekend, Kabir Khan’s directorial had raked the total business of 64.77 crores, that includes 21.15 crores of Friday, 21.17 crores of Saturday and 22.45 crores of Sunday from 4350 screens. With this, it become the second highest opening weekend grosser of 2017 so far. Although the collection of the movie is strong enough, but as compare to Salman Khan’s previous offerings, it is quite low.
In weekdays, it faced heavy drops and received very less than expected. Despite holiday it hadn’t showed any growth on Monday and minted the amount of 19.09 crores. Then on Tuesday with a major dip, it minted the amount of 12 crores. On the next day i.e. Wednesday, Tubelight witnessed more drop and estimated to rake the business of 6.50 crores.
On Thursday i.e 7th Day, with further declination the movie collected the amount of 4.50 crores and made its 7 days or opening week total collection as 106.86 crores at domestic box office. With this, it is surpassing the lifetime domestic total of SRK‘s Don 2 (106.71 crores). Tubelight, directed by Kabir Khan, is an official remake of the 2015 American war drama Little Boy.
Tubelight also features Sohail Khan, Zhu Zhu, Matin Rey Tangu and late actor Om Puri in pivotal roles. The film will face competition at the box office this week from the Hollywood release, Transformers: The Last Knight.
