Salman Khan’s Tubelight has turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of 2017. The distributors of the film have faced huge losses with this film. Tubelight is currently the 3rd highest grosser of 2017 after Baahubali 2 and SRK’s Raees. Directed by Kabir Khan, Tubelight is set amidst the backdrop of the 1962 Indo-China War. It is adapted from American film Little Boy.
Tubelight was supposed to have a big release in China too but post its India release, there has been no confirmation about the same. Produced under the banner of Salman Khan Films, Tubelight also features Salman Khan’s brother Sohail Khan, Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Yashpal Sharma, late actor Om Puri and Matin Rey Tangu in key roles. Shah Rukh Khan has done a cameo in the film and can be seen in the avatar of a magician.
In the opening week, with overall good note Tubelight raked the business of 106.86 cr, that includes 64.77 cr of weekend and 42.09 cr of weekdays. In the second week, it faced heavy drop and minted the total amount of only 11.65 cr that includes 8.25 cr of weekend and 3.40 cr of weekdays. Nobody expected such down market performance by the movie of Salman Khan. After the 2 weeks, total domestic collection of Tubelight was recorded as 118.51 cr.
Now the movie is running in its third week and witnessed very less in the weekend. It received below average response and collected the amount of 0.73 cr including 0.25 cr of Friday, 0.21 cr of Saturday and 0.27 cr of Sunday. In weekdays, as expected it is getting more lesser and just crawling on box office very slowly. On Monday it minted the amount of only 0.14 cr. With more drop, it added the amount of 0.12 cr on Tuesday. After 19 days, total domestic collection of Tubelight is recorded as 119.50 crores.
