Tamasha 9th Day Box Office Collection
Imtiaz Ali’s latest release Tamasha is not every Bollywood fans’ cup of tea. With a distinct narrative and a different storyline, the romantic drama has struck the right the chord with mostly Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone loyalists. The film, which opened to mixed reviews from critics, has already entered the Rs 50-crore club. Within a week of its release, the film has done a decent business at the box office. Unlike Jab We Met, Imtiaz’s latest offering is liked by only a certain set of the audiences, primarily youth. The film opened to a good start on Friday by earning Rs 10.94 crore and minted more moolah on the consecutive days. But with the onset of Monday, it’s a downhill for Ranbir-Deepika’s film.
However, after three back-to-back flops, Ranbir can now heave a sigh of release with the box office success of Tamasha. The film has minted more money than his last three releases- Roy, Bombay Velvet and Besharam. Tamasha brings back the popular on-screen jodi of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. It is for the third time that the ex-lovers have reunited on the 70mm. Apart from picturesque locales of Corsica, the film boasts of a crackling chemistry between Ranbir and Deepika. However, the film fails to recreate the same magic as their last outing Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.
Tamasha had a good opening weekend at the Box Office, what with 38.23 crore coming in at the Box Office. While this was the second best start that a Ranbir Kapoor starrer had ever taken (after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani), it was pretty much a given that the film would primarily be aiming at a niche audience comprising of urban youth. Yes, the foundation was such that a greater hold during the weekdays would have taken it to a much higher total. The weekdays though saw patronage coming in primarily from that segment of audience which has flair for Imtiaz Ali directed films, and that reflected in collections.
On its second Saturday, Tamasha has received very less occupancy of 10-20% across the country and minted the amount of only 2.84 crore as its 9th day collection. As Hate Story 3 is getting decent response from audience, so there is no chance for Tamasha to retain its pace. The movie is expected to add near about 10 crores more to its account in this week. On the work front, Ranbir will be next seen in Jagga Jasoos, while Deepika will romance rumoured boyfriend Ranveer Singh in Bajirao Mastani.
