Sultan 38th Day Collection: 6th Friday Business Report

Sultan 38 Days Box Office Report

Salman Khan’s “Sultan” has crossed Rs. 300 crore mark at the Indian box office in 36 days, but “Mohenjo Daro” and “Rustom” may not allow the film beat the life-time collection record of “Bajrangi Bhaijaan.” Released in cinema halls on July 6, “Sultan” made superb collection at the Indian box office in the three weeks. In its fourth week, the movie clashed with John Abraham’s much-hyped film “Dishoom,” which forced it out of many cinema halls and also took a toll on its business, by becoming the first choice for many audience.

Though there were no big ticket releases in its fifth week, the Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer showed steep decline in its collection. “Sultan” has collected appoximately Rs. 1.98 crore nett at the Indian box office in its fifth week, taking its 36 day-domestic total collection to Rs. 300.21 crore. Leading Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: “#Sultan [Week 5] Fri 24 lacs, Sat 49 lacs, Sun 78 lacs, Mon 16 lacs, Tue 16 lacs, Wed 15 lacs. Total: ₹ 300.21 cr. India biz.” After seeing its overwhelming opening and massive collection in the first week, trade analysts in B-Town had predicted that “Sultan” would be Salman Khan’s second film to surpass Rs. 300 crore in the domestic market.

It was also predicted to become the highest grossing film for him, beating the record of his previous release “Bajrangi Bhaijaan,” which has raked in Rs. 320.34 crore nett in the domestic box office in its life time. On the last day of week i.e. Thursday, Sultan recorded slight more drop and likely to add 0.12 crore* to its account. With this, five weeks total collection of the movie will become 300.33 crores* on domestic box office. From this Friday, two much awaited Hindi movies- Rustom & Mohenjo Daro are being release, so it won’t be easy for Sultan to rake considerable business.

As predicted, “Sultan” has been successful in scoring a triple century, but it needs to collect Rs 20+ crore to shatter the record of “Bajrangi Bhaijaan.” However, the film is facing threat in the form as it is forced to be withdrawn from most of the cinema halls by “Mohenjo Daro” and “Rustom,” which are set to hit the screens on Aug 12. Trade experts say they will completely halt its business in its sixth week.
