Sultan 18th Day Box Office Response
Rajinikanth’s “Kabali” mania has not affected Salman Khan’s “Sultan” at the box office. The Salman-Anushka Sharma starrer witnessed only 39 percent drop in the beginning of the third-week at the box office. The sports drama minted Rs. 3.20 crore* on its 18th day at the box office collection, which took its overall nett box office collection to Rs. 283.30 crore*. “Sultan” has now inching towards the Rs. 300 crore nett club in India, which features only two movies until now. If “Sultan” crosses Rs. 300 crore mark at the box office then it will be Salman and Anushka’s second film to enter the club.
Aamir Khan-Anushka’s “PK” and Salman-Kareena Kapoor Khan’s “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” are the top grossers with a box office collection of Rs. 340.8 crore and Rs. 320.34 crore, respectively. Anyhow, In the opening week, it perfectly cashed 5-days festive weekend due to Eid and minted the total business of 229.16 crores, included 180.36 crores of weekend and 48.80 crores of weekdays. Despite new release Great Grand Masti, Sultan remained unaffected and did the business of 34.07 crores in the second weekend. In 12 days, the movie had registered the master record of fastest 500 crores grosser worldwide.
Then in weekdays, it witnessed usual drop than weekend and raked the business of 14.73 crores. At end of its 2 weeks journey, total collection of Sultan was recorded as 277.96 crores on domestic box office. From overseas market too, the movie reported impressive business of 145.49 crores till its 16th day of release. Now it has entered in the third week and has superstar Rajinikanth starrer much awaited Kabali (Tamil, Telugu & Hindi) in opposite.
Despite new and strong contender, Sultan heading unaffectedly on box office. With usual drop in its occupancy, Ali Abbas Zafar’s directorial minted 2.14 crores on its third Friday. Third week is expected to see mix reaction from the audience. It can face a fall in the overall audience rush and excitement due to new flicks but will still has a good hold over the major number of screens. Cinema reports has now audience occupancy of about 30-40% and if this continues to fall lower than Sultan might get a fall back from the box office and end up sooner.
