Sultan 16th Day Collection: Heading towards 300 Cr in India

Sultan 16th Day Box Office Collection

Sultan is coming to the end of its run and will close around the 300 crore nett mark and this has instilled confidence in the industry with blockbuster success and in the last five months there will be a good flow of big releases to add to Sultan. But is Sultan just a one off and the rest of the year will see results like as they were before Sultan where films outside Hollywood release The Jungle Book not only struggled for initials but also appreciation. There were a few films that did well but the biggest plus for all these films barring Housefull 3 were cost constraints. Housefull 3 had a big satellite price and a subsidy from UK which combined were probably worth over 55 crore which turned out to be the big plus.

The problem all the films outside Sultan and The Jungle Book faced is not just appreciation but even universal acceptance and the numbers are just not going to come if forget being liked you are not even accepted by majority of the audience. A film for the big multiplexes may get around 1 crore people to the theatres if it gets a clean run so that these multiplexes keep it on for 4-5 weeks but that is not really going to translate into big numbers and to even get there you need the luck of the draw.

In its 9-days opening week, Sultan did the business total of 229.16 crores including 180.36 crores of 5-days weekend and 48.80 crores of weekdays. In just 7 days of released it entered in the 200 crores club at domestic box office, whereas the biggies like PK, Bajrangi Bhaijaan & Dhoom 3 took 9 days for this. Now the movie is running in its second week and reported amazing rise in its second weekend. In the second weekend, Sultan again witnessed higher footfall in theaters and minted the amount of total 34.07 crores with 7.43 crores of Friday, 11.46 crores of Saturday and 15.18 crores of Sunday. After 12 days, total domestic collection of the movie was recorded as 263.23 crores.

Not only in India but from overseas market too, it is getting overwhelmed response and reported total business of 136.33 crores from there till the end of second weekend. Once again Ali Abbas Zafar’s directorial Sultan entered in weekdays and being normal working days witnessing lesser response on box office. On Monday, it raked the business of 4.08 crores with almost 45% of drop than last Friday.  Then on Tuesday, it faced slight more drop and collected 3.72 crores across India. On Wednesday, Sultan started the day on a similar note as Tuesday but reported overall slightly lesser occupancy.

As per the report, the movie has added 3.42 crores to its account on the 15th day. With this, its domestic total has become 274.45 crore and surpassed the lifetime total of Dhoom 3‘s Hindi version, that was 271.82 crores. Including Tamil & Telugu versions, Dhoom 3 did the business of 284.27 crores. But by now maximum number of people had watched the movie and collection of the movie will show a downward trend from the third week weekdays. Anyhow the third Thursday i.e. 16th day income of Sultan by the end of day is around 3.51 Crores. It is not too bad for the film considering the start of downfall trend from the second week.
