This week we saw three releases in Lucknow Central, Simran and Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi. Where Lucknow Central and Simran saw a low opening, Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi‘s opening was almost negligible. Let’s talk about Simran. The film was never super-hot and thankfully for those associated with it, there was some awareness around it during last couple of weeks.
On the opening day, Ranjit Tiwari’s directorial opened on a dull note across the country. From the evening shows it witnessed slight jump in footfalls and raked the average business of 2.04 crore on 1200 screens which is lower than the expected figure. On the next day i.e. Saturday due to weekend, the movie showed little jump and raked the business of 2.82 crores to make it’s 2 days domestic total 4.86 crores
While the adjacent release, Hansal Mehta’s directorial Simran is a drama movie, revolves around a Gujarati girl who works as a housekeeper in US and unknowingly gets involved in the world of crime. With the trailer, it made good impact on viewers but the movie itself getting failed to entertain most of the audience.
Leading actress Kangana Ranaut has given her best as always, but still Simran is receiving mixed reviews from critics as well as audience. On Friday, it opened on a dull note in morning and minted the amount of 2.77 crores from 1500 screens across the country with overall 15-20% of occupancy.
On Saturday due to weekend tim, it witnessed fair jump and collected the amount 3.76 crores to make it’s 2 days domestic total as 6.53 crores. Next week it’ll face competition from Sanjay Dutt’s Bhoomi, Shraddha Kapoor’s Haseena Parkar and Rajkummar Rao’s Newton.
This week it would be interesting to see how Lucknow Central and Simran will fare competing with each other. Previous releases like Shubh Mangal Saavdhan & Bareilly Ki Barfi are still in the race at the box office.
