Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar starrer comedy romantic drama Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is receiving positive reviews from viewers as well as critics, but not attracting much audience in theaters, as most of them are diverted because of Baadshaho and existing Toilet Ek Prem Katha. Like the first one, this one too getting mixed reviews from critics and positive from viewers.
But due to clash with a biggie Baadshaho, it got lower audience in theaters on Friday. The movie recorded only 10-15% of occupancy in morning on 1400 screens in India and overall 20-25% throughout the opening day. With this, R.S.Prasanna’s directorial Shubh Mangal Saavdhan raked the business of 2.71 crores.
On Saturday due to positive buzz, it witnessed fair jump and collected the amount 5.56 crores to make it’s 2 days domestic total as 8.27 crores. The film has in fact opened even better than Bareilly Ki Barfi [2.42 crore] though the fact also remains that Eros gave it a much wider release. That also stems from the kind of confidence that the makers had in the film since flooding the screens with a product doesn’t necessarily translate into good numbers all the time.
Nonetheless, a start has been made by the film and for the leading lady Bhumi Pednekar this is yet another success in the making after Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Toilet – Ek Prem Katha. She has been projecting a middle class small town girl quite well on screen and though one just hopes that she doesn’t get typecast into such roles, for now it is working for her and the films which she is signing.
