Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush starrer ‘Shamitabh’ was the biggest movie this weekend in the India box office. The movie’s opening weekend box office collections did reasonably well with Rs.13.25 crore from the first three days. ‘Shamitabh’ now stands as the third in the list of 2015’s top opening weekend earners, behind Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’ (Rs 36.07 crore) and Arjun Singh-Sonakshi Sinha’s ‘Tevar’ (Rs 22.05 crore). Overall, the movie is now at No 5 position after ‘Baby’ (Rs 89.14 crore), ‘Tevar’ (Rs 39.26 crore), ‘Alone’ (Rs 19.33 crore) and Dolly Ki Doli (Rs 19.26 crore). In fact, ‘Shamitabh’ has done better than Big B’s last film ‘Bhoothnath Returns’, which made Rs 18.02 crore in the first weekend with a lifetime collections of Rs 39.54 crore. The megastar is yet to have a Rs 100 crore on his kitty, except ‘Bol Bachchan’ where he did an item number. ‘Shamitabh’, which had a reasonably good showing in the multiplexes, has managed to generate Rs 4.75 crore from Saturday and Rs 5 crore from Sunday. With Rs 3.5 from the opening day, the movies net box office collections now stand at Rs 13.5 crore.The Amitabh Bachchan starrer on very dull note on Friday. The film, which got mixed reviews, opened at a very low occupancy rate in the morning and afternoon shows but had better showing in the evening and late night shows on star powers. R Balki’s directorial film “Shamitabh” had a decent opening weekend at the domestic box office. With 30-40% of occupancy and limited screen count, the Amitabh Bachchan-Dhanush starrer managed to take its three day total to Rs.13.25 crore. “Shamitabh” remained steady on its 4th Day and minted about Rs.2.5 crores approx at the domestic box office. “Shamitabh” minted Rs.13.25 crore in its first weekend, whereas “Paa” had minted Rs.10.90 crore. Meanwhile, the film has four more days to fare in decent amount from the box office, as the upcoming film “Roy” might affect the earnings of the film. “Roy” starring Arjun Rampal, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ranbir Kapoor, has garnered good hype at the box office. And since it features Ranbir in an important role, the film is expected to take a good start at the box office. “Shamitabh”, which tells the story of two individuals with the desire of becoming actors, has received rave reviews from critics and audience. Looking at the audience’s response, Amitabh posted on his blog saying that “it gives credence to the film”. “Reading the reviews on ‘Shamitabh’ gives credence to the film, the thought and the performance…and that is most gratifying for the artiste…many varied colours are painted, but what remains without any doubt is the effort and the execution of that which has been elusive, for most,” Big B wrote on his official blog.
