Despite courting controversies and backlash from members of the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, Sarkar continues to hold steady at the box office. The Vijay starrer is one of the biggest Tamil releases of the year as it was released on 3000 screens across the globe. Despite protests, the makers of Sarkar are laughing all the way to the bank.
Directed by AR Murugadoss, Sarkar has got succeed to entertain many in theaters and received mostly positive reviews from the critics. After grossing 100-crores within just 2 days, the got dropped abruptly due to the protest, but now it is expected to maintain a good pace onwards.
Produced by Sun Pictures, the movie was released this Tuesday amid the huge excitement of fans and registered the massive opening of the year so far with 31.60 crores on a phenomenal note. On Wednesday, after a healthy drop due to the protest, Sarkar did the business of 18.50 crores.
With a further decline, it grossed the amount of 10.40 crores on Thursday & 7.50 crores on Friday. Then on the next day i.e. Saturday, Vijay-Keerthy starrer collected 6 crores and raised its 5 days total collection to 74 crores from Tamil Nadu including approx 7.75 crores from Chennai.
On Friday, the team of Sarkar volunteered for some cuts in the film in the face of criticism. In an application to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the team requested to omit some scenes and dialogues from the movie. Sarkar’s re-edited version was shown on screen from Friday onwards. The film is headlined by Vijay and stars Keerthy Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Radha Ravi and Yogi Babu.
