Box Office: 2nd Friday Day Collection of ‘Rustom’
After showing remarkable performance in the opening week, now ‘Rustom’ is attaining its pace back. Tinu Suresh Desai Menon’s directorial this Indian Crime thriller film is being loved by everyone and flying high on buzz at box office. It has received very positive reviews from critics as well as moviegoers, and grossing excellent business figures across the country. The lead star Akshay Kumar has given best performance of his career till yet and is getting praised by audience. It is clear that there is an altogether new fan base that the actor has managed to build, especially since the release of A.R. Murugadoss’ Holiday.
Multiplex ‘junta’ has embraced the new Akshay Kumar on display and his films are now being much anticipated for certain content that the actor has to offer. That has been evidenced in continued success of films like Holiday, Baby and Airlift, while the ceiling is being touched now with the super success of Rustom. 100 crore is now no more a benchmark for this Zee Studios and KriArj Entertainment film since Rustom is looking at a much bigger haul ahead. In its second week, while Mohenjo Daro won’t be any competition any more, the only other film in contention is Happy Bhag Jayegi.
In the opening weekend, Tinu Suresh Desai’s directorial witnessed terrific audience response and did the business of 50.42 crores, including 14.11 crores of Friday, 16.43 crores of Saturday and 19.88 crores of Sunday. With more than 50% of occupancy through out, it successfully dominated the much awaited adjacent release Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro. In weekdays, Rustom recorded usual drop than weekend but still maintained a good pace across the country.
On Monday due to holiday on account of Independence day, it faced slight drop and minted the healthy amount of 17.81 crores. Then on Tuesday, being normal working day, the movie witnessed 46% of drop than Friday and did the business of 7.67 crores. On Wednesday, it reported more drop and collected 6.38 crores. On the last day of week i.e. Thursday, being Raksha Bandhan it picked up well, recorded good rise in its business and as per the early report added the amount of 8.62 crores to its account.
With this total opening week collection of Rustom has become 90.90 crores in India and surpassed the domestic lifetime total of Shahrukh Khan’s Fan (84.10 crores). On its second Friday, this Akshay starrer has received well response and raked the amount of 4.41 crores. This week, two new films Happy Bhag Jayegi and UnIndian have also released at box office and obviously hampering the smooth journey of Rustom. But still due to strong word of mouth and content, it stands on top and ruling on box office.
