Box Office: 29 Days Collection of Rustom
Akshay Kumar’s “Rustom” may have been declared a superhit at the box office, but the critics were unforgiving about the slip-ups in the film. A viral meme explained the medals on naval officer Rustom Pavri’s (Akshay) uniform and it had all of it wrong. Producer Neeraj Pandey is enjoying the success, but is irked about the loopholes and how it made its way to the final cut. Talking to Mid-Day about the errors in the film, Neeraj said they had an ex-navy officer Vipul K Rawal on board, who is also the writer of the film, to ensure there are no factual mistakes. Despite the embarrassing detailing goof-ups, “Rustom” has managed to shine at the ticket-window.
The audience loved Akshay’s controlled performance of an army personnel, who is torn between love and national duty, and appreciated the thrilling murder mystery. “Rustom” released on Aug. 12 alongside Hrithik Roshan’s “Mohenjo Daro,” which was being touted as one of the biggest releases of the year. But the former beat the period film to the finish line. In the opening week, Tinu Suresh Desai’s directorial this thriller drama recorded amazing occupancy and did the business of 90.90 crores. In the second, it maintained good pace and raked the amount of 26.11 crores. Then in the third week, it showed decent performance and reported the business of 7.71 crores.
In its fourth weekend despite Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira, Rustom remained unaffected and registered the business of 1.39 crore (including 0.31 crore of Friday, 0.47 crore of Saturday and 0.59 crore of Sunday) with usual drop. After the fourth weekend, total collection of the movie was recorded as 126.38 crores (175.12 crores gross) from India and 39.24 crores from overseas. Then in weekdays with slight drop, it minted the amount of 0.29 crore on Monday, 0.24 crore on Tuesday, 0.23 crore on Wednesday & 0.28 crore on Thursday.
With this, total 4 weeks collection of Rustom has become 127.13 crores on domestic box office. In its fifth week it collected 0.32 crore* as its 29th day collection. Though the film would just fall a few lakhs short of Airlift [129 crore], it still is from an academic perspective since both Akshay Kumar starrers are big superhits. As a matter of fact, Akshay Kumar’s three films [Airlift, Housefull 3, Rustom] have now generated over363 crore at the Box Office in 2016, which is a huge feat indeed.
