Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut-starrer Rangoon finally hit theatres, and high expectations were riding on the film. The period drama, set in the World War II era, is said to be Vishal Bharadwaj’s most expensive film till date, reportedly with a budget of Rs 80 crore. The film has opened to positive reviews from critics as well as audiences. Vishal Bharadwaj, who extracted powerhouse performances from Shahid in Kaminey and Haider, and Saif in Omkara, has teamed up with Kangana Ranaut for the first time. It is expected to pick up over the weekend through word-of-mouth publicity.


Vishal Bhardwaj’’s directorial Rangoon is a romantic-drama, which has impressed everyone. From critics it has received mixed reviews but the opening day performance showed the support of fans as well as audience. On Friday, the movie witnessed overall 20-25% of occupancy on 1800 screens in Indian market and did the decent business of 6.07 crores, which is good enough in such circumstances.

There is good distance to be covered for the film though. The word of mouth needs to be largely positive from this point on and the footfalls need to gain a lot of added momentum. A lot would depend on how Saturday opens and it would be evening and night shows again that would hold utmost importance. If the film does grow by 40%-50% more from here on, it could benefit immensely from an open week ahead.

The Vishal Bhardwaj-directed romantic war drama received mixed response and most of the audience liked the movie. The word of mouth was expected to help it show big growth on Saturday, but it failed to do so. Rangoon collected approximately Rs 6 crore at the Indian box office on Saturday, taking its two-day domestic total to Rs 12.07 crore.
