Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Karbanada’s Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana released with Irrfan Khan and Parvathy’s Qarib Qarib Singlle. But talking of Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, a solid word-of-mouth could actually turn the tables for this romantic drama. More so because it marks Rajkummar Rao’s fifth film this year after Trapped, Behen Hogi Teri, Bareilly Ki Barfi and Newton.
On the opening day, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana opened to a disastrous note and did the business of only 0.65 crores from 750 screens across the country. On the next day i.e. Saturday, the movie witnessed 35.74% of growth than Friday and minted 1.50 crores. Then on Sunday with slight more rise, it raked the business of 2.30 crores and raised it’s opening weekend total to 4.45 crores.
On the other hand, Qarib Qarib Singlle which opened to rave reviews from the critics and audiences alike, witnessed 75 percent jump on the day two taking the total collections to 4.8 crore. On Friday, it collected 1.75 cr while on Saturday, it minted 3.05 crore. Then on Sunday as well, it showed more growth and raked the amount of 3.50 crores.
Made with a budget of Rs. 20 crore, the movie is expected to recover its cost in the first week of its release as the movie enjoys strong word of mouth for its quirky content and unique storyline. It was released in more than 1,000 screens in India. Presented by Zee Studios, Qarib Qarib Singlle is A Jar Pictures production. The film is shot across real locations of Bikaner, Rishikesh and Gangtok.
Both films have low costs going in their favour which means there isn’t much burden that they carry from theatrical business. Also, on online medium they should find good traction. Still, since both have been given a good theatrical release, one looks forward to them staying on in theatres for at least two weeks. Business today will give a good indication of whether that is on the anvil.
