Starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte, PadMan has witnessed a slow but steady growth at the box office in its first week. The film was able to rake in Rs 59.09 crore in the first six days but seems like the film will witness some tough competition at the box office during its second weekend.
In the opening weekend, it did the business of 40.05 crores including 10.26 crores of Friday, 13.68 crores of Saturday and 16.11 crores of Sunday. Now PadMan is running in weekdays and as stated above, getting lesser occupancy across the country. The weekdays performance is very crucial for the movie to drag it to the safe side.
Then in weekdays, asusual PadMan witnessed sudden drop in footfalls but still managed to remain strong. On Monday, it faced the drop of around 43% than Friday and minted the amount of 5.87 crores. On the next day, it recorded some jump due Maha Shivaratri holiday and minted the amount of 6.12 crores.
Then on Wednesday, PadMan reported good response than previous day because of Valentine’s Day and added the amount of 7.05 crores to its account. On the next day i.e. Thursday, with slight more dip PadMan garnered the business of 3.78 crores and raised it’s one week total collection to 62.87 crores.
PadMan is based on the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who brought about a near revolution by introducing a machine capable of producing low-cost sanitary pads. PadMan became the first Bollywood film that released in Russia, Ivory Coast and Iraq on the same day as it hits the screens in India, said producer Twinkle Khanna.
