Bollywood’s very promising director R.Balki’s recent offering PadMan is heading smoothly on box office across the country. With good response of audience and mixed reviews of critics, this biographical comedy-drama registered decent opening in the weekend. The film, starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte.
PadMan is based on the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who brought about a near revolution by introducing a machine capable of producing low-cost sanitary pads. PadMan became the first Bollywood film that released in Russia, Ivory Coast and Iraq on the same day as it hits the screens in India, said producer Twinkle Khanna.
In the opening weekend, it did the business of 40.05 crores including 10.26 crores of Friday, 13.68 crores of Saturday and 16.11 crores of Sunday. Now PadMan is running in weekdays and as stated above, getting lesser occupancy across the country. The weekdays performance is very crucial for the movie to drag it to the safe side.
On Monday, it faced almost 43% of drop than Friday and did the business of 5.87 crores. On the next day, it recorded some jump due Maha Shivaratri holiday and minted the amount of 6.12 crores. On Wednesday, PadMan reported good response than previous day because of Valentine’s Day and added the amount of 7.05 crores to its account.
With this, its 6 days total collection has become 59.09 crores on domestic box office. To achieve the expected lifetime total, it has to remain steady throughout this week and show a considerable jump in its second weekend.
