Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte’s much-awaited film Padman has finally hit the theatres on Friday, with huge excitement of fans and moviegoers. As expected the movie opened up on a good note and getting positive reviews from most of the critics as well as audience for it’s solid content and brilliant performances by all the actors.
Helmed by R Balki, PadMan is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, famous for his path-breaking innovation. Muruganantham brought in a revolution in villages by innovating an economically viable sanitary pad so that women, irrespective of their background can use it with ease. Inspired by the tale of this underdog, Twinkle Khanna chose to bring his story to the silver screen.
The film takes much of its plot from a short story from writer and Akshay Kumar’s wife Twinkle Khanna’s book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad. Twinkle has also co-produced the film. Meanwhile, PadMan has received immense support, thanks to its brilliant promotional strategy, which created the needful hype.
On the opening day, PadMan recorded decent occupancy of 20-25% for morning shows and witnessed fair growth over the evening & night shows due to positive word of mouth. With overall 30-35% of occupancy on around 2750 screens in India, it has garnered the business of 10.26 crores which is as expected.
PadMan was previously scheduled for a release along with Padmaavat on January 25 but chose to avoid the clash. After it shifted its release date to February 9, producers of Aiyaari and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety also changed their release dates.
