Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmaavat’ which stars Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in lead roles, released after a lot of speculations which were raised by fringe groups, who even held protests against the film. Although from critics, the film has received mixed reviews but fortunately most of the audience found it entertaining and showed thumbs up.
As a result the movie remained excellent throughout the opening week and did the business of total 166.50 crores, that included 114 crores of weekend and 52.50 crores of weekdays from more than 4000 screens across the country. In the second week, the film has raked the business of 69.50 crores, that included 46 crores of weekend and 23.50 crores of weekdays.
Then in the third weekend, Padmaavat enjoyed uninterrupted run at box office and minted the amount of 17.80 crores, with 3.50 crore of Friday, 6.30 crores of Saturday and 8 crores of Sunday. After 17 days of release, total collection of the movie was recorded as 253.80 crores.
Now Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial has been entered in weekdays once again and still has enough hold over the audience. On 3rd Monday, it faced approx. 20% of drop and garnered the business of 3.20 crore. With this, 19 days total collection of Padmaavat has become 257 crores at domestic box office.
The film revolves around Rani Padmavati, the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh, who is known for her beauty and valour in 13th century India. She captures the fancy of the reigning Sultan of Delhi, the tyrant Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh), who becomes obsessed with her and goes to great lengths to fulfil his greed.
