5 Days Total Collection of Naam Shabana
Directed by Shivam Nair, Naam Shabana is also produced by Neeraj Pandey, who helmed 2015’s Baby, which featured Taapse as Shabana Khan for the first time. Naam Shabana is actually a prequel of sorts for Baby and highlights the backstory of Shabana. On March 31, Taapsee Pannu’s film clashed with movies like Rahul Bose’s Poorna, Hollywood’s The Boss-Baby and Oscar-winning Iranian film The Salesman.
Taapsee, who plays the role of a determined and strong-willed secret agent, trained extensively in martial arts and combat for her part in the film. Naam Shabana successfully reunites the original Baby castmates – Anupam Kher, Danny Denzongpa and Madhurima Tuli – with Manoj Bajpayee and Elli Avram as new joinees. South actor Prithviraj Sukumaran plays an arms dealer, the main antagonist in the film.
On its very first day, Naam Shabana had witnessed the decent occupancy of 30% across the country and minted the amount of 5.12 crores. On Saturday it showed impressive jump in its business and raked 6.37 crores as its second day collection. On the last day of weekend it added excellent amount of 7.27 crores and made the weekend total as 18.76 crores.
On Monday, it faced a drop of more than 40% than Friday and minted the amount of 2.54 crores as its fourth day collection. On the next day i.e. Tuesday, Naam Shabana minted the amount of 2.50 crore and made its 5 days total collection as 23.80 crores on domestic box office.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Naam Shabana still gets maximum shows in the second week as well (though Baahubali, in its re-release, could surprise). However, for exhibitors to continue with their confidence on the Shivam Nair film, it would need to stay strong from now till Thursday. It is going to be a wait and watch period till then.
