The much controversial film MSG opened across 3000 screens nationwide on Friday 13. Needless to say, it met with an overtly enthusiastic welcome, thanks to the ardent fan following of the Dera Saccha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. MSG was scheduled for a January 16 release, but got delayed due to clearance issues with the censor board. In lieu of the controversy surrounding the film, the shows were not only booked in advance but are houseful for the weekend. Bulk bookings promise sky high figures over the weekend, with each ticket costing around Rs. 450 to Rs.500. The story revolves around Guru ji (Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh), who is a spiritual leader, and has a humongous fan base. He has accepted the challenge of eradicating social evils including drugs and gender-related issues, that have been prevailing in the society. Those with vested interests are now on a manhunt to track him down. MSG has garnered an impressive box office collection, but appalling reviews. The movie is first of its kind and an all new experience for the movie goers. The movie is released along with Roy which is a love centered movie. The movie MSG – Messenger of God which is a spiritual movie has been released near Valentine’s Day. The movie is based on the theme to take the youth away from the addiction of the drugs and addictives. MSG – Messenger of God had a good response from the followers of Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan and the collection of the movie is entirely dependent on these followers of his. MSG didn’t get much response from the reviewers and the critics also gave almost no star rating for the movie. MSG is expected to collect Rs.1-2 Crores on the second day also.
