Mohenjo Daro 8th Day Collection: 2nd Friday Performance on Indian Screens

Mohenjo Daro 8 Days Box Office Report

Hrithik Roshan’s “Mohenjo Daro,” one of the most-talked about and highly-awaited Bollywood movies of 2016, has failed to make expected collection at the worldwide box office in five days. With a budget of Rs. 115 crore, it is also one of the most expensive movies in the history of Indian cinema. The massive hype and promotions had given the feel that it would get an earth-shattering opening and do superb business on the following days. Trade experts had predicted that this period movie would shatter the records of SS Rajamouli’s 2015 blockbuster movie “Baahubali: The Beginning.”

But “Mohenjo Daro” shocked everyone in the industry by failing to cross the Rs. 10 crore mark in both the domestic and international markets on its opening day.  Though it showed growth on the following days, the numbers were not up to the mark. Its current pace of collection shows that the movie would struggle to recover its production cost in its lifetime. Many in the industry are busy analysing the aspects that affected the collection of “Mohenjo Daro” at the worldwide box office.

Anyhow, The title of the film “Mohenjo Daro” had created a lot of curiosity and expectations about its story were sky high.  But its trailer gave a clear picture that the film was not going to be what the fans expected. The trailer received negative opinions and became one of the most trolled promos of the year. Meanwhile, In the opening weekend, the movie recorded 30-40% of occupancy and did the business of 30.54 crores including 8.87 crores of Friday, 9.60 crores of Saturday and 12.07 crores of Sunday. On Monday being holiday due to India’s 70th Independence Day, it remained decent and raked the business of 10.36 crores.

On Tuesday being normal working and due to cold word of mouth, it witnessed abrupt fall in its occupancy and minted the amount of 3.16 crores. Then on Wednesday, it faced slight more drop and collected 2.96 crores on domestic box office. On the last day of week i.e. Thursday being holiday due to Raksha Bandhan, Ashutosh Gowariker’s directorial Mohenjo Daro showed little rise in its business and added the amount of 4.24 on its account. With this, opening week total collection of the movie has become 51.18 crores across the country.

Now the movie has entered in the second week and running in its second weekend. On Friday, it has started the day on a decent note and witnessed lesser response than yesterday as Bollywood biggie Rustom has diverted all the audience towards itself. Mohenjo Daro has raked the business of 2.31 crore* as its 8th day collection and made its domestic total as 53.49 crore*.
