Kabali 4th Day Collection: Monday India & Overseas Business Report

Kabali 4 Days Box Office Collection

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s crime drama Kabali broke opening records in India and internationally last weekend while the global gross of Salman Khan’s Sultan surpassed $80 million. Written and directed by Pa. Ranjith, the Malaysian-set film easily won the weekend in India, beating Madaari, a Hindi thriller starring Irrfan Khan, Jimmy Sheirgill and Tushar Dalvi, and Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond. Co-starring Radhika Apte, Dinesh Ravi, Kishore, John Vijay and Winston Chao, Kabali rang up an estimated 109+ crore net in three days in India, an industry record, beating Salman Khan’s Sultan 105.50 crore 3-day debut.

Released on 1,000 screens in northern markets by Fox Star, the V Creations production collected $2.4 million on Friday and Saturday and the distributor was expecting a 3-day total of $4 million. Internationally, the film raked in an estimated $11.5 million, beating the previous high of $10.32 million posted by Yash Raj Films’ Dhoom 3 in 2013. North America generated approximately $4.2 million for distributor CineGalaxy, the Gulf States posted $2.25 million, other Asian markets including Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines took a combined $4.25 million and the U.K. made about $400,000.

According to producer Kalaippuli S Thanu, the leaking of the film online shortly after the first screenings on Friday morning had no impact on ticket sales because the print was of such poor quality and Rajinikanth’s fans wanted to see the film in cinemas. The film, which cost 170 crore, is already in profit as the producer recouped more than 200 crore from pre-sales including the satellite rights for the Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam markets to Fox’s Star TV.

Meanwhile, Kabali has also good competition in India as it released on the screen along with another international awaited movie Exodus Gods & Kings and Bollywood movie Sultan already in the race as well. As Exodus is coming out as a positive release and the reviews of the movie seems to be highly fascinating overseas while the craze of the Indian south superstar Rajinikanth is also among the audience on top.

Fourth day performance of film shows the trade done on its first weekday is decent enough and quite good to lead in the race by earning 13.50 Croresin India. As Kabali has been released on too large number of screens globally and expected to break all possible records of previously biggies of south Indian industry, but its earlier days business are supporting it in that way and this movie might end up with high business if reports are to be believed which are entirely based on certain facts.
