Hansal Mehta never ceases to amaze us with his choice of stories and storytelling. The poster of his upcoming thriller Omertà which was released today gives an indication that the filmmaker along with Rajkummar Rao is about to break new ground again. Omertà is the terrifying true story of Omar Saeed Shaikh, one of the most dreaded terrorists of all time.
The poster shows Rajkummar kneeling in prayer with his hands cupped and wearing a skull cap. Seeing a man peacefully praying is hardly the image one would conjure up of a terrorist who kills without a conscience. But Mehta definitely makes a strong point with the poster. For the first time ever, we will see Rajkummar play the role of an anti-hero.
From the role of a dedicated civil servant out to do good to a merciless, cold-hearted and brutal terrorist, its a character diametrically opposite to what we saw in Newton. In fact, he even tweeted a still from the film, saying it’s the toughest role he has played till date.
Rajkummar Rao also tweeted the poster and wrote, “Here’s the official poster of #Omerta. Film releasing on 20th April. Trailer out in two days. @mehtahansal.” Before the poster, the actor also tweeted a still from the film and wrote, “#Omerta the story of an Antagonist. Trailer will be out in 2 days. Easily the toughest character I’ve played till date.”
Director Hansal Mehta wrote, “The antagonist rises. Here is the poster for our newest offering #Omerta – the true story of Omar Saeed Sheikh. Trailer out on March 14, 2018. @RajkummarRao @SWISSENTERTAIN3 #KarmaMedia @Omerta2018.” Hansal Mehta earlier collaborated with Rajkummar in three back-to-back films — Shahid (2013), Citylights (2014) and Aligarh (2015).
