Superstar Akshay Kumar’s highly awaited Gold was released last Wednesday with great excitement of his fans and also it took excellent start on box office. As expected the movie has witnessed favorable response of audience across the country as well as overseas. But the clash with John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate has ultimately caused much loss to its business, infact this happened with both the movies.
Although Gold has grossed more than 100 crores on domestic box office and recorded quite good performance in international market. Also it has received positive reviews from most of the critics as well as moviegoers and is being appreciated for the brilliant performances given by Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy. But it could get much better if the screens & audience did not get divided.
With huge initial buzz, Reema Kagti’s directorial recorded terrific occupancy throughout the 5-days opening weekend and did the business of 71.30 crores on 4000 screens in India. The weekend total included 25.25 crores of Wednesday, 8.10 crores of Thursday, 10.10 crores of Friday, 12.30 crores of Saturday and 15.55 crores of Sunday.
In weekdays, asusual Gold got lesser occupancy in theaters than weekend and performed decently. On Monday, it faced almost 48% of drop than Sunday and did the business of 4 crores. On the next day, the movie minted the amount of 4.60 crores on Tuesday but showed some growth on Wednesday and raked 6.10 crores (Eid-Al-Adha holiday).
Then on the last of week i.e. Thursday, with little drop it added the amount of 3.30 crores and made its extended opening week domestic total as 89.30 crores. Gold provided a power-packed performance by the ensemble actors. Gold is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, helmed by Reema Kagti.
