While premium multiplexes and other properties at major centers were going houseful from the very first show, even B and C centers caught up by afternoon and evening shows. This resulted in superb occupancy by the time the day came to a close, as a result of which the collections turned out to be truly remarkable.
On the opening day, Reema Kagti’s directorial this historical sports drama had recorded excellent occupancy from the morning shows and did the whopping business of 25.25 crores in India despite the adjacent release Satyameva Jayate.
On the next day i.e. Thursday, Gold witnessed usual drop in footfalls but still remained strong at box office and garnered the business of 8 crores nett across India. With this, the total collection of the film after 2 days has become 33.25 crores nett at the domestic box office from 3050 screens nationwide.
Akshay Kumar’s Gold and John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate are based on the same theme – patriotism – but belong to completely different set up. While Akshay’s film was about India’s first gold medal in hockey at 1948 Olympics, John Abraham’s film is about a vigilante who kills corrupt cops.
