BO Prediction: First Day Collection of Dear Zindagi
Dear Zindagi, starring Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan, is likely to witness a great opening at the Indian box office on Friday, November 25. The movie is expected to break a few records of the first day collection at the domestic box office. As per early estimates, Dear Zindagi will witness 35 percent occupancy and will collect approximately Rs 8-10 crore on its opening day. Dear Zindagi has been making tremendous buzz, since it has a unique star cast combination of Shah Rukh and Alia.
This is the first time the two actors will be sharing screen space. The teasers have raised the curiosity level among viewers, who are eager to watch Shah Rukh’s equation with Alia in the film. The teasers of Dear Zindagi give a hint that the movie is refreshing and light-hearted and will narrate a new-age story. Directed by Gauri Shinde, who had helmed the critically-acclaimed film English Vinglish, Dear Zindagi aims at the multiplex audience in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata to bring in the maximum numbers.
Although the demonetisation drive is likely to impact the collection of the film to a certain extent, positive word-of-mouth publicity may help the movie’s overall business. Dear Zindagi revolves around a budding cinematographer Kaira (played by Alia) who meets Jehangir Khan or Jug (played by Shah Rukh). Jug is a psychiatrist and helps a heartbroken Kaira gain a new perspective on love and life. Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, Dharma Productions and Hope Productions, Dear Zindagi also stars Kunal Kapoor, Ali Zafar and Aditya Roy Kapur.
Rs 22 cr – Cost of production: While the fan reaction has been extremely positive, Dear Zindagi is still a niche film – for all we know, its woman-centric theme might even keep men away. It’s the reason why Dear Zindagi’s budget was limited. Shahrukh Khan, who produced the film, hasn’t taken an actor’s fees, but will be reaping its rewards as the producer. Rs 7-8 cr – Marketing: Dear Zindagi has relied on some slick advertising in print and digital means of publicity, which cost around Rs 7-8 crore. This makes the total budget of the film roughly Rs 30 crore.
Earnings (Satellite rights) – Rs 25 cr: The rights for the movie to be screened on television after its release have been sold for Rs 25 crore. Music rights – Rs 10 cr: The rights to Dear Zindagi’s soundtrack have been sold for Rs 10 crore. Result: This makes its entire earnings Rs 35 crore against a budget of Rs 22 crore! However, there are other costs involved and break-even amount is a tad higher.
